Harmonizing the different ethnic groups living in America
America is a country that is racially and ethnically diverse. Many people view America as the country of golden opportunity or the land of milk and honey. This is one of the main reasons why different groups from all over the world migrated to America to try and have a shot at a better life. There is thus a need to harmonize the different ethnic groups living in America so as to promote peace. Jews and Muslims are some of the ethnic groups residing in the United States of America. The American Jews are American citizens who practice the Jewish faith and culture. They have been present in America as far back as the 17th century and are predominantly the Ashkenazi Jews. In early 1880s, the Jewish immigrants increased dramatically as a result of persecution in certain parts of Eastern Europe.
Muslims living in the United States of America are known to have migrated there between the 1880s and 1914 from the Ottoman Empire. They are one of the most racially diverse and religious group in the country. This is according to a 2009 poll by Gallup. African Americans compose about a quarter of the entire Muslim population. Despite them being the two most successful religious groups speaking in terms of wealth and education, they are still not considered “true Americans” by the rest of the majority in society and thus they often experience discrimination. This is one of the reasons that prompt them to conceal their religious identity. Both the Muslims and the Jews have similar practices such as avoiding consumption of pork and its products. This however, does not guarantee a good relationship between the two as would be expected since they live in a Christian dominated country. The reason behind this is due to being raised in a household or an environment of such mistrust to an extent of harboring hatred. There is a need to try and repair the relationship between the two groups so as to uphold peace and create harmony. It would serve them no good to war with each other. This would be a pure waste of time and resources. Every community or any society is made up different people from diverse backgrounds. The most important thing is to have respect for each and every person. Educating the mass as well as the children will serve a huge part in creating a harmonized society. The fact that one is a Jew and that the other is a Muslim does in no way make one less of a person. It is through diversity that beauty is created. Taking advantage of a different culture will also promote peace between the American Jews and the Muslims. Learn the positive from each ethnic group and finesse it to build a better society. Bringing together both the Jews and Muslims rather than treating them as two separate groups, will see them working together in peace and it will be ultimately for the good of the community at large. It is therefore up to each and every American Jew and Muslim to take it upon them to harmonize the different ethnic groups living in America.
